My friends, Jenny and Tom Hammar. And Sigge and Max.

If you follow my blog you know that I’m part of a wedding photography network, weddingphotographers.se – a group of six friends. One of them is Jenny Hammar. Jenny is a photographer I truly admire, and have admired since I first started shooting. Her pictorial language is so emotional and the colors in her photos are like green olivs and a sweet white wine… Jenny is also that kind of person who lights up a room with her aura. She is warm, lovable and a true friend. (And fierch in english, so she’ll probably find a typo or two in this blogpost!) She is married to the very handsome Tom and together they recently got twin boys – Max and Sigge. ♥

So far so good. But then one day, Jenny asked me if I could take some family photos of them. The same moment my lips said the words “I’d love to!” the rest of my body just wanted to drop off the face of earth. What did I just promise?!? Shoot one of my big role models? Holy cow…! I actually arrived to the shoot 45 min early and just sat around the corner in my car jittering, but once I finally made it up to their appartment the nervousness was all gone and I hade a lovly time shooting, singing songs, shaking a rattle trying to get two small boys to be happy at the same time. Don’t know if the boys or I was most exhausted by the time we where done… :)

torkel & magda

I shoot Torkel and Magda’s wedding back in 2008 and now they’re expecting – yay! We headed out to a cow paddock to snap some sunset photos, the light was yummy and so were we apperently because the mosquitos loved us. :( I probably got 50 bites (!) but it was worth it, easy.

I’m so happy to have met Torkel and Magda – they are so funny and so caring. Everytime we talk they ask about me, how I’m doing, how my work is going… I know they are going to be amazing parents and I’m sitting by the phone just waiting for them to call and tell me that they now are three in the family! ♥

Is it anything more flattering than having your clients coming back and re-hiring you? I shoot both Carl and Katja’s wedding in Sweden and their wedding in Moscow, Russia last year and now I got to document the baptism of their adorable little son Alexander. Everyone of their family and friends are so kind I warmly welcomed me back. ♥ And it was lovely to see how much love surrounds little Alexander, Carl & Katja are amazing parents.

The baptism took place at Fullerö Herrgård, a beautiful estate right outside Västerås.

The moment I met the Goshn family I got a warm loving feeling inside – I instantly knew I would like them, a lot. Especially Sean and little Liam, just look how cute they are! Although, photography might not be their favorite thing to do… It took a lot of persuading, singing, standing on one leg, saying “tada” and lots of soap bubbles to make the little sweethearts happy. Both from me and their very patient parents, but I think we did it… ;)

Cards that make my day

I love, love, love when clients send me “thank you”-cards! It’s just so nice to see how they present their photos and I love to hang them on a wall in my studio, and whenever I’m having a bad day I can just glance at the wall and feel all the love from my former clients! When I got home from Brazil this card was waiting for me, from baby Britta and her parents – and it totally mad my day! ♥

This little charming boy is 7 months old Felix. Turns out Felix and I have one big thing incommon – we both l.o.v.e. dogs! And we both agreed that Felix’s dog Pixie definitely should be in a few images. And Pixie didn’t mind. She didn’t even mind when Felix pulled her ear. Now that’s love. ♥

*side note* Yes, I did try to kidnap Pixie when I left (as I do with every dog I meet) but she was a little bit to big to fit in my camera bag. Unfortunally. Note to myself: get a bigger camera bag.

Some moments I will never forget – the day I moved to Stockholm without a penny in my pocket, the day I spotted a georgeous guy (way out of my league) across the room whom now is my BF and the day I recieved an email from Jocey at The Wedding Chicks who let me know they wanted to feature Carl and Katerina’s russian destination wedding on weddingchicks.com! I started jumping up and down, cried (tears of joy), laughed, jumped a bit more, cried again… T.h.a.t.s. how happy I am. I have never been featured on a wedding blog before and I couldn’t more thrilled or more honored that my debut is on The Wedding Chicks. If you haven’t visit before you should definatly head over to their blog, it’s filled with awsome ideas to make your wedding unique and fabulos. ♥

Photography Q&A part V

So, a few more quick questions and answers – this time with focus on my preferences…

Q: Do you shoot raw? I’m thinking about switching over to raw but they take up so much space on both the memory cards and on my hard drive…
A: Yes, I do. I’m simply not good enough to nail the jpg’s… :) Regarding the space issue – I prefer to have many CF cards to “spread” my images in case something happens (knock on wood…) and lots of hard drives, well that’s just my life. Back up, back up, back up…

Q: What programs do you use to edit your images?
A: Well, I have used many different but prefer Bridge/Photoshop or Lightroom/Photoshop. Mainly cause that’s what I started out with and that’s what I know best. What’s your favorite program??

Q: Do you use a tripod?
A: Hardly ever. I like to move around and be flexible, and honestly I don’t have the patiance to work with a tripod. I might use it for big group shoot in poor lighting conditions but that’s about it.

Q: Do you use flash?
A: Never during daylight, only at receptions or shoots after sunset. This is a big topic, I will just talk about this in a separate Q&A post soon!

A thank you card worth waiting for

In the end of June I had the honor of shooting Carl & Katerina’s (swedish) wedding at Fullerö Herrgård outside Västerås. And in September I got to photograph their (russian) wedding in Moscow Russia. I knew the Russian wedding would be something different because the theme was Karl XII meets Katerina The Great but I really had no idea what I was about to experience. Arriving at the airport (with my sweet friend and awsome second shooter Anna) we were greated by a personal driver with an enlargement of one of my pictures from their Swedish wedding (all the guests was greated this way). At the hotel we had champagne, russian sweets and a free mini-bar in our hotel rooms! (Phew, the hard life as a wedding photographer…) And, they had also made a magazine about their Swedish wedding. With my images everywhere. Crazy!

The day of the wedding, we woke up to find they decorated the intire hotel with lifesize enlargements of my photos from their swedish wedding. Where ever I looked, I saw my own images. Strange feeling. The wedding day was incredible (to see the photos click here), Anna and I worked from early morning ’til 3 am that day. (Then we had an hour to download images before we had to head to the airport to fly back to sweden and shoot another wedding the next day.) Crazy! Again!

So the other day, I recieved a package in the mail – Carl & Katerina’s thank you card. Or should I say, thank you magazine. Becausse they actually made an entire magazine from their 4 day Russian wedding. Filled with photos and gossip! I’m speachless. Honestly, how amazing! ♥

Behind the scences with Becker

Last summer I had the honor of second shooting with [B]ecker, if you are a wedding photographer you know who he is but if you are not familier with the name - [B]ecker is a fabulous wedding photographer located in CA, USA. He’s a b.i.g. goofball and an true artist. He can really make his clients realax, he nail every shoot and with an open heart he shares everything he knows about photography – a big role model. You can find out more about him on his blog and if you’re a photographer make sure to check out the [b]-school.

I had been following [B]eckers blog ever since I started my photography business, but first time I met him was at his and Jessica Claires workshop in Stockholm last May. He invited me to come and second shoot with him at a wedding in Connecticut USA a few week later and obviously I was thrilled! Day of the wedding, however, I was nervous. Like “can’t-stop-shaking-think-I-might-throw-up”-nervous but [B]ecker was as cool as always and his beautiful girlfriend Keates was there as well and helped me out. The day was amazing. I work, hard. But I had so much fun doing it. And I learned soooo much. Thank you both [B]ecker (for the opportunity) and Keates (for helping me out)!
